Just found this link to a very helpful book based on a lead that my Professor gave me… direction for developing a good graphic design thesis. Side note: I’ve decided to post all of my inspirations and visual stories (assignments for Directed Research) on this blog as a record of the process.

Pattern Designs in color
I chose two color schemes for my pattern designs – split complementary (Y-BV-RV) and analagous (Y-YO-O). I’m not sure where these patterns will fit in the book layout… oh, I’m back to a book now. I wanted to do something with different paper textures but realized that a book makes so much more sense andContinue reading “Pattern Designs in color”
A few textures with color schemes I’m interested in
For my texture/pattern studies I’m using three color schemes: Warm analagous (Y-YO-O), Split complementary (Y-RV-BV), and neutrals. I’m not sure what the difference is between neutrals that are created from the complementary color vs. neutrals created from adding grey, or if there even is a difference. hmm.
Completing the Color Studies for my Book
These are the split complementary relationships, triad, and warm and cool analagous sets. Also I’ve been thinking a lot about the book and I’m not sure a book is the best form for what I want to do. I’m considering a set of cards with a different time of day on each. Each time ofContinue reading “Completing the Color Studies for my Book”
Here is what I have so far for my pattern
I decided to use triangles because they represent the color yellow and sunlight. There are hexagons in the pattern and the unit becomes a hexagon when all of the shapes are placed together, but I like what’s happening when there is some space between the shapes near the bottom. I added some process sketches belowContinue reading “Here is what I have so far for my pattern”
Triad Color Scheme
Tonight I decided to work on a triad color combination: yellow, red and blue. I did a few sketches with acrylic paint using different proportions of the three hues.
Sunlight on a lemon
In class last week I presented the mock up of my color book, and I realized that I’m communicating two themes – sun and lemon. While the color is the same, it’s confusing to carry both themes throughout the book without connecting them in some way. Here are a few images of sunlight on aContinue reading “Sunlight on a lemon”

New and Different Yellow study
This study asks: what are all of the yellow objects in my apartment? It also attempts to answer the question of ‘what shape is my color’? This is an interesting image of a new product series that I thought was really relevant to this exercise. I love this image (not extremely relevant but the colorContinue reading “New and Different Yellow study”
