I made a few watercolor paintings to include as texture in my color book and thought I’d include them at full size here. I loved creating these, and it was probably the most fun I had doing any assignment for the whole semester. I’m really glad that the feeling of watercolor and the texture ofContinue reading “Watercolors for textures throughout book”

Pattern Designs in color
I chose two color schemes for my pattern designs – split complementary (Y-BV-RV) and analagous (Y-YO-O). I’m not sure where these patterns will fit in the book layout… oh, I’m back to a book now. I wanted to do something with different paper textures but realized that a book makes so much more sense andContinue reading “Pattern Designs in color”
A few textures with color schemes I’m interested in
For my texture/pattern studies I’m using three color schemes: Warm analagous (Y-YO-O), Split complementary (Y-RV-BV), and neutrals. I’m not sure what the difference is between neutrals that are created from the complementary color vs. neutrals created from adding grey, or if there even is a difference. hmm.
Completing the Color Studies for my Book
These are the split complementary relationships, triad, and warm and cool analagous sets. Also I’ve been thinking a lot about the book and I’m not sure a book is the best form for what I want to do. I’m considering a set of cards with a different time of day on each. Each time ofContinue reading “Completing the Color Studies for my Book”
Here is what I have so far for my pattern
I decided to use triangles because they represent the color yellow and sunlight. There are hexagons in the pattern and the unit becomes a hexagon when all of the shapes are placed together, but I like what’s happening when there is some space between the shapes near the bottom. I added some process sketches belowContinue reading “Here is what I have so far for my pattern”
A few things I learned from Giovanni Marra (Pantone)
We had a great guest lecturer in class on Tuesday – Giovanni Marra, Director of Corporate Marketing for Pantone. First let me say that he has a great job – studying color, travelling to exotic destinations for research, selling color to top names in fashion, design and other industries. It was interesting to learn aboutContinue reading “A few things I learned from Giovanni Marra (Pantone)”
The Little Prince
In Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s illustration, there is a double complementary relationship between yellow, violet, blue-violet and yellow-orange. There’s also blue and green in there… it’s a beautiful illustration.
Triad Color Scheme
Tonight I decided to work on a triad color combination: yellow, red and blue. I did a few sketches with acrylic paint using different proportions of the three hues.
Jonathan Adler’s bold color combinations
Not sure how they do it, but the web designers at Jonathan Adler combine just about every color ON EARTH onto the home page, and it still looks great. There are a few blues, a few red/neutrals, some grays, yellow, purple and of course a pop of orange. The left navigation bar looks so funContinue reading “Jonathan Adler’s bold color combinations”
Paul Klee Color Scheme
Now for a color scheme from a Klee oil painting that I love: Senecio, 1922. The print hangs (well leans actually) on the wall near my desk. He created many shapes with different shades of yellow in this painting and I’ve estimated the color proportions in this study. I’ve also been trying to decide whatContinue reading “Paul Klee Color Scheme”
